Walking the camino de Santiago

1st September to 5 October 2022

750km (500 miles)

I will be walking with Lynda and Elaine and posting photos and thoughts experienced on the walk (the funny side hopefully).

The itinerary

Leaving Totnes 30/8 to stay overnight in London and catching the Eurostar on the 31st to paris, traversing Paris and catching the TGV to Bayonne.

As there are very few trains to our start , St Jean pied du Port , we are staying in Bayonne and catching the early train (6.45) to St Jean.       Phew.

WHY?

Jenny….I am walking as it is on my bucket list. In 2007, I walked 1 week of ‘the way’ and in 2009, I walked  another 2 weeks(ending in Santiago). It has never left me as it was a life changing time.

In 2018, I was diagnosed with cancer and went through treatment, after which I was told that I am now clear. This diagnosis was really a kick up the bottom.

So …………

How do I feel? Two weeks ago i had the wobblies as after having to buy another pair of boots as mine gave up, i ended up with mild plantar fasciitis. I was concerned as my previous experience told me that shoes need walking in first.

To cut the story short, I managed to get a pair of trial shoes which are comfortable ,yeaaa.

Yeh Jenny you are on your way – Pete and I will follow your journey with interest …. your blog is already bringing back memories of us struggling up the hill to St John Pied de Port with our packs and other luggage that we were able to leave at the Pilgrim Office. Hope your weather is good and the boots remain comfortable as you start the 24.8Km to Roncesvalles. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to share your journey and to be able to reminisce from 2009!
